Hot foil

This method can make your design look very elegant. It is achieved by simply applying coloured foil onto your logo or some lettering. The most popular colours are silver and gold which can be used on dark backgrounds as well as on white.

Embossed/Debossed

Embossing and debossing is a much more discreet way of adding value to your design. The first one is a raised design, while the other is an imprinted design. You can even mix these techniques with the aforementioned hot foil. If you decide not to print anything on an embossed area nor are putting on any foil, this is called blind embossing (see the photo below).

Spot UV

Spot UV is a technique that is even more subtle yet very effective. It is a transparent layer which is later dried by UV light. An interesting idea can be using this on a black background to make an elegant impression. It also makes the difference in touch, as the foil area is more slippery.

Coloured edges

This method is an up and coming trend and gives a creative modern feel. You can see this effect applied more often, not only on a business cards, but also on books or invitations. It is simply spraying them all together after printing and cutting to the proper size.
