The psychology behind Engagement.

If you are coming into a business or have been put into a position of power you’ll probably know what I mean.

You have your ideas, they’re great ideas, so why is it so hard to convince others?

Here’s why…there’s no GAP to fill.

The art of getting people to give a f*ck about what you're saying and therefore why you are there.

Find out how a client of mine transformed his team into leaders, and made a lot of money doing it in ONE simple action.

Storytellers, movie makers and soap operas have managed to captive us since the beginning of time.

Why does it then seem so difficult when we’re trying to bring a team together?

If you are coming into a business or have been put into a position of power you’ll probably know what I mean.

You have your ideas, they’re great ideas, so why is it so hard to convince others?

Here’s why…there’s no GAP to fill.

Take any film directed by Christopher Nolan (Batman’s Dark Knight among many others), and you’ll see he starts with the end and works the audience from there.

When you start with the end guess what?

People lean in and go ‘How did they get there?’

BAM! That my friend is Engagement 101.

However, we’ve only peaked their interest, we need a plan mapped out in such a way that keep them glued.

Ever watched a movie and thought ‘what the hell is going on?’

This goes against everything in Storytelling. If you’ve got a lost audience then you’ve got a bored audience. We need to provide signposts in our piece.

Signposts work best in titles or phrases which refer to a chapter or stage of our progress.

It needs to be clear and language which is shared.

In the case of my client above, the language within the business was plain and straight talking, therefore we removed all jargon and stuck to terms which needed no explanation.

So how did my client manage to turn his team from steady worker bees to alpha leaders?

Simple.

At the beginning of every meeting he shared the company’s vision for the future.

This way he transported his team to the end and from here backed filled the GAP with his plan to get there.

It’s simple however not easy.

Engagement is a great communication tool and communication is key for business, yet something we’re rarely taught.

Get it right and you unlock hidden potential.
